Hi! I'm Jess

What happens when you stop trying? 😳

Happy Earth Day Reader!

I hope you find some time to get outside today 🌎 it feels like the most honest way to mark Earth Day.

Even today, it’s easy to slip back into doing instead of being.

We live in a world that rewards doing.

A a society that's always trying to produce something, respond quickly, or optimize a process.

Even our rest has a tendency to become something we're trying to do correctly. (Oh hello Oura ring stats check every morning! << that's me too! 🙈)

This week I want to offer you something that asks almost nothing of you.

Simply an invitation to witness.

Not to photograph. Not to analyze. Not to turn the moment into content or a caption or a lesson.

Just to be present with something living, for a few minutes, without needing it to do anything or mean anything or be useful in any way.

I've been thinking about the dandelion lately. The one coming up through the crack in the pavement. How determined it must be, completely unbothered by its surroundings, just doing what it does, exactly where it is, without asking anyone's permission.

There's something in that I find so dang inspiring ✨.

This week's invitation is simple. Almost embarrassingly so, but I think you might find it surprisingly hard.

🌿This Week's Nature Invitation: The Thank You

Find a living thing outside this week and just witness it for a few minutes.

A tree, or a patch of moss, a leaf or maybe a dandelion coming up through a crack in the pavement - whatever catches your attention.

Watch it without needing it to do anything. Without photographing it or explaining it or looking up what type of thing it is or turning it into content.

Just be with it. Let it be with you.

This is reciprocity too. Presence offered freely, in both directions.

📧 What did you find? Hit reply and tell me. I love hearing what people notice when they actually stop. 💚

Special Announcement:

Urban Forest Therapy donated a Private Forest Bathing session to the Earth Day Festival’s virtual silent auction this year!

I was so honored to be asked to participate but it was an easy yes because the people behind this work, Earthday365, the Young Friends of Earthday365 and The Earthways Center at MOBOT are doing so much to keep sustainability alive and accessible in St. Louis.

The kind of work that doesn’t always get seen, but makes a real difference over time.

If you’ve ever been curious about forest bathing, or you’ve been wanting a meaningful way to gather your people, this is a beautiful way to step in.

There are 60+ items and experiences in the auction from local organizations and businesses, it’s worth a look even if you’re just browsing.

You can explore and bid here👇

Auction runs through April 27 at 5pm.

🌍 Coming up THIS WEEKEND: Earth Day Festival, Saturday April 25th

If you're in St. Louis I'd love to see you at the Earth Day Festival this next weekend. I'm offering two free experiences:

A Storytelling Circle: Imagining a World with Less Plastic

A guided reflective circle where we'll explore what a world with less plastic could look and feel like. Through shared stories and simple prompts, we'll create space for much needed hope, connection, and inspiration.

Forest Bathing: Returning to the Living World St. Louis Earth Day Festival

A slow, guided forest bathing session to reconnect with nature through your senses, a simple way to step out of the pace of modern life and back into relationship with the living world.

💚 Both sessions are free and open to all. I'd love to share this day with you

Hope to see you outside soon!

In Peace and Presence,
🌱 Jess
